Welcome back! Have you Joined The Club?
90210 is Back! Can you believe it?
I saw the commercials for it early this morning while watching a movie with my 14 year old daughter. Right after the commercial my MayMay turned to me and asked, “That was a show from ‘back in the day’ right?”
I guess I looked puzzled because she added, “You know, back when you were young?”
90210? “Back in the day?” How old am I anyway?
It was funny that MayMay said this to me when she did because I had just gotten off a call listening to Patti Serrano from Grandma and the Geeks. Patti had just been discussing “old” and the fact that we should be proud to be old!
I AM AN OLD MOM AND I AM PROUD OF IT!
What makes “old” bad? What is the definition of old anyway? When are we officially considered “old”?
The dictionary has many definitions for old so here are two for you:
1. Having lived or existed for a relatively long time; far advanced in years or life.
2. Having or exhibiting the wisdom of age; mature
Personally, I like the second one better!
The bottom line is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being “old”.
I can tell you that just recently, I did feel my age as I watched my oldest walk through the doors of her new High School.
Serious separation anxiety. Almost as bad as the day she got on the bus for Kindergarten. I guess I was feeling “old”. My first baby was going to High School!
As my tears and that feeling in the pit of my stomach passed, I realized that this is just the beginning. High School is a beginning for her and for me. My being “old” had nothing to do with anything.
Old is just more experienced than young. Taking my “Old” and sharing it with the young around me is what makes me a Mom.
Beverly Hills 90210 was from ‘back in the day’. The original series ran from 1990-2000. I was a little shocked when I found out it was 18 years ago that the series came out. (ok, the old thing again!)
I’ll admit, I did watch the show “back in the day”! As corny as this may sound, I am actually looking forward to watching it again. This time around, I’ll be sharing what I remember from “when I was young” watching the original series with my daughters.
If the show makes a go of it and lasts another 10 years, it will be something we can make the baby part of.
One thing I have learned from being a New Old Mom is that doing things together with your kids, even something as little as watching a silly TV series, fosters conversation, builds relationships and keeps you in touch with your kids.
The New 90210 Series starts September 2nd on CW. Good or bad, I’ll be sharing some of my “old” with my daughters that night and loving every minute of it!
Take the time to enjoy and share your “old” today!
Thanks for the mention….as you know I am very committed to people being themselves at any age. I am so proud of my gray hair LOL. Seriously….being old is awesome. I think we need to train people to look forward to all it’s advanteous’.
Madison Avenue has done a great job selling that young is better. Yet, the wise women was reveered in many communities of old. That is precisely why I jumped into the internet because I knew I could fulfill my goal of letting younger people know it is ok to be old and have fun with whatever age you are.
Thanks again for the mention …talk to you soon..Patti AKA Grandma
